Event Recap: Kinetic Indiana Conference

A couple of weeks ago Todd and I had the pleasure of attending the inaugural Kinetic Indiana conference, put on by venture capital firm Elevate Ventures.

The conference served as a great reminder that entrepreneurship is prevalent across the entire country, including the Midwest. Engaged educators and government entities, in addition to a history of successful exits, characterizes the strongest regions. Indianapolis has had a fair number of great successes like ExactTarget, Aprimo, Compendium, Angie’s List and Interactive Intelligence, which have created a great technology ecosystem of mentors and investors. The conference highlighted this fact with several hundred angel investors, venture investors, and entrepreneur attendees.

I had the honor of speaking on a panel on alternative financing options. As the conference was not specific to SaaS, the other panelists covered things like federal R&D grant programs and hardware and equipment financing. It was great to see the breadth of financing alternatives now available.

I enjoyed speaking on the panel and meeting the attendees – and while we will always enjoy SaaStr and Dreamforce  – no one should overlook non-Bay Area events like this where you can meet and learn from people building real companies in great (and affordable) places to live.
